YOUTH LEADERSHIP COURSE

All successful leaders have one quality in common - the ability to communicate effectively. It is important that people develop this ability early in life so that they may successfully meet the demands and challenges of today's world. That is why Toastmasters has developed the Youth Leadership course.

WHAT IS YOUTH LEADERSHIP?
The Youth Leadership Course was developed by Toastmasters to help the young people of today become the leaders of tomorrow. Conducted through the Hunter Community College, the Youth Leadership Course is an intensive two-day program designed specifically for Years 11 & 12 school students. Experienced Toastmasters present the fundamentals of communication in a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere.

LEARN BY DOING
In Youth Leadership, students will practice what they have learnt. They will gain confidence in all aspects of communication, including prepared and impromptu speeches.

Topics covered include:

speech construction,
impromptu speaking,
being a Master of Ceremonies,
proposing a toast,
proposing a vote of thanks,
gestures, body language and dress (personal presentation),
vocal variety,
visual aids,
interview technique,
listening skills,
assertion.

HOW WILL IT HELP ME?
By the end of this course, students will have developed self-confidence and interpersonal communication skills. They will be able to overcome nervousness when speaking in front of groups, and to organise and present ideas logically and convincingly.

This course will improve their performance in:

Speaking in public
Motivating people
Interviewing for jobs
Selling ideas or products
Customer service
Preparation and organisation of essay writing
Delivering presentations (a requirement at university)
Interpersonal relationships
